Everything started on Wednesday, July 4th; had to pick up my mate Krysune from the airport and rent a vehicle from National for the trip to Pittsburgh. Took a Nissan Rogue SL, highly recommend it for a midsized SUV; was very smooth ride and amazing on gas without loss of power, just simply amazing!
Arrived at the Drury Plaza Hotel around 2:00 PM EST on Thursday July 5th; was about a five hour drive from Sterling Heights, Michigan. Brought a large fiberglass reinforced tote on wheels with NueFox, another large tote for alcohol, and my large travel bag for my clothes (half of which I don’t end up wearing). Pittsburgh Pennsylvania was absolutely beautiful entire convention; sunshine and cool temperatures perfect for suiting, and this was perfect for NueFox’s debut!
After getting settled in, first thing was to head to Anthrocon registration. There was maybe one or two items on the schedule for Thursday that I had wanted to check out, but didn’t end up going to either; was really exhausted from the trip and lack of sleep from the day before.
Dealer Den was amazing, lot of furry stuff, but nothing that seemed worth buying for me this year; which I guess was good, saved myself some money! 🙂 Still really amazes me the variety and creativity of each vendor, and this was only half of; the other half was Artist Alley and the Con Store (which I always make sure I get the t-shirt of each convention).
Didn’t get the opportunity to go to many panels at the convention; spent lot of my time walking around and watching everyone else. Going on top of the convention center seemed the thing to do; which couldn’t blame anyone cause the view was amazing and of course the weather. Found a bunch of furs making this music video trash; looked rediculous watching the guy lip-sync some rap song, would like to find the recorded video on YouTube. (Sad I know, but this was how I spent part of my Anthrocon) Also found some Furry Star Wars fanatics which looked pretty interesting so took a snapshot.Â
Went to the fursuit parade (a bit late); and sadly as I’ll explain later, did not participate in it this year. But was really awesome how many people were there and the weather, again, was amazing for having a parade.
Did make sure to go to the Video Gaming lounge as I am always up for playing some Halo 2 or Halo 4, was looking for a challenge but sadly everyone is all about “lets play some Super Smash!” It is a staple of every convention, really sick of seeing the game anymore to be honest; seeing it over and over again has worn it’s appeal to me.
I did do a bit of suiting with Nue at the convention, but not as much as I had wanted to and didn’t make it into the parade or get my fursuiter badge. Mind you, this is my first suit and never had I ever worn any other suit before, so all was a Nue experience for me (pun intended ; ) and though I got about 6 hours total in the suit, the reason I had not worn more was because of the following. So first, I have not been out anywhere with the suit to test wearing the whole suit all together, so quickly found that wearing the high-heels and the head became a very precarious situation that required my full concentration to balance; I was fine with the heels or the head by themselves, but the two together was disasterous. Also, because of the additional effort and concentration needed to balance, this also put a lot of strain on my calves, so needless to say much more that after I had done a bit of walking and photos, my calves were shot and could not go on. Regardless, I did enjoy suiting, just have to get myself in better shape and have more practice, then would be able to wear the suit for longer periods of time.
